The Fab Times Attended the Fabulous (but ill attended--as always) MLK March

On November 18, the Fab Times took a haunted Macomb tour. We didn't see any ghosts but we did get to see the interior of the old LaMoine Hotel, a place we've been curious about. The picture above was taken in the hotel basement while Rod Shumaker, one of the tour guides, was trying to detect a ghost electromagnetically.

Robin Thomas had an art show the night of the first snow. Robin is well known for photography, but this night was showing his paintings.

A week later we returned to attend a reception for Larry Jarvis, pictured above with Mary Warnock. Larry manages the local cinema and for 25 years has brought foreign films twice a week to Macomb along side films (like Saw III) the company sends him. The town would much poorer culturally without him.

Heather Brady gave a talk at Monmouth College on Marseilles' Literary Culture. Monmouth has very cush meeting rooms.

Andrew Bidney at Peter and Heather's going away party. They are going to Dar es Salaam for a semester to teach. Andrew had just returned from six months in the wilds (and we mean the wilds) of Maine, where he was doing conservation work.

Peter Cole with Laurette and Byron at the aforementioned going away party. Note Peter's radically shortened locks.

Kate Joswick, stalwart of the Reference Desk, retired in December. This picture was taken at the end of one of her last desk shifts on the 22nd of December.

One hellishly cold, snowy night we waited for Adam Chacksfield (the Great Abstainer) at the Amtrak station. He had been visiting the compartively balmy Anchorage, Alaska.
